April 13th on the day commemorating Our Co-foundress Mary Mazzarello The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mary Immaculate Province of the Western United States were honored to attend the “Fishers of Men” benefit dinner hosted by the Guadalupe Radio Network to accept recognition of their apostolic work among young people in the city of San Antonio. The “Fishers of Men” award is granted annually to individuals, families or organizations who promote evangelization in the city. The FMA of the Western province has taken seriously the call to engage the virtual playgrounds of various technology and media platforms and has collaborated on numerous occasions with the Guadalupe Radio Network of South & Central Texas to promote province youth opportunities and collaborate in the mission of evangelizing through radio.
The event took place at Holy Trinity Church in San Antonio and was attended by hundreds of benefactors of the radio station and local Catholic protagonists. Accepting the award on behalf of the sisters were Sr. Rosann Ruiz, Provincial, Sr. Bernadette Mota, Director of Mission Advancement, and Sr. Sydney Moss, Delegate for Youth Pastoral for the province. In her short acceptance remarks Sr. Rosann Drew attention to the fitting title of the Radio Station, Guadalupe, pointing to the vital action of The Blessed Mother in all evangelization efforts. She also highlighted Mary’s direct intervention that led to the founding of the FMA institute. She closed with the challenge for each person present to always look to Our Lady for the success of their ministries, trusting in Don Bosco’s words that when we trust in Mary we will see miracles!
The event was a celebration of gratitude, both for the people for the work and witness of the sisters and of the sisters for this great honor for Mary Immaculate province and the opportunity to connect and expand our mission for the education and evangelization of young people.
