We, Salesian Sisters, have many festivities that center around August 5th. This day is our profession day which had its beginnings in 1872 with St. Mary Mazzarello and her companions in Mornese, Italy. This year, here in San Antonio, was no different in the planning, but the 2020 reality was incredibly unique since it was impacted by the pandemic twist. Families and friends of our new novices and Sisters did not join us physically in San Antonio but virtually. Our extended Salesian Family was perhaps even larger than usual.
- On August 3rd, Sr. Valeria Jimenez, Sr. Shaila Mathai, and Sr. Claire Ramos became novices. They are now preparing to become Salesian Sisters in Newton, New Jersey for the next two years.
- On August 4th, Sr. Theresa Khong, Sr. Quynh Pham, Sr. Monica Wheeler, and Sr. Melissa Benitez renewed their vows as Salesian Sisters.
- The morning of August 5th, Sr. Cherilly Galley and Sr. Lien Phan made their first religious profession as Salesian Sisters. We rejoiced with our newly professed Sisters and with their friends and family on this most beautiful day!
- The mid-afternoon of August 5th, Sr. Lindsay Durham made her final Perpetual Profession as a Salesian Sister. Sr. Lindsay professed her “forever vows” in the presence of our Provincial, Sr. Rosann Ruiz.
The pandemic certainly did touch each of our events, but it was only a touch that came nowhere near the essence of what took place! Thank you for being with us in thought, prayer, and virtual presence. We humbly ask that you continue to pray for us that we may show our great gratitude for our calling not only by our words but by the joyful witness of our life-giving Salesian vocation. We continue to pray that our Blessed Mother will protect and accompany you and your loved ones.
